Helpful Tips
Calling can be intimidating, especially if you have anxiety! These scripts will help you prepare what to say. The person who answers the phone won't be mean and they won't actually be the representative - they'll be a staffer who will take a message. Let them know you'd like to leave a message for the representative regarding COVID-19 vaccine distribution plans, and then use your script. They might ask if you want to leave your number or email, and that's your choice! There are scripts for states that don't prioritize disabled folks, as well as for states that only prioritize the 12 conditions listed on the CDC website, which leaves far too many people behind.Feel free to change or add the script to suit what you want to say - it helps to have some variation in the calls and a personal story can make an impact! Just try to keep it concise and clear so they get the point. You can scroll to the bottom to see what your state's vaccine distribution plan looks like.
Thanks for calling!!

GOVERNOR NEWSOM:
CALL (916) 445-2841
SAY: "Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] and i'm a constituent from [YOUR CITY]. i'm calling to demand Governor Newsom add people with preexisting conditions to the list of prioritized groups for vaccine distribution. Chronically ill and disabled people are incredibly high-risk when it comes to COVID-19, regardless of age. An age-based vaccination plan will leave us/them vulnerable to the virus. The loss of more disabled lives during this pandemic is unacceptable and unconscionable. People with preexisting conditions have already lost so much while hospitals are at capacity. You have the power to prevent any more loss by prioritizing disabled lives, and i ask you to do the right thing and include people with preexisting conditions in the priority group for vaccine distribution. Thank you for your time and have a good day."STATE SENATORS/STATE REPRESENTATIVES ( find yours here ):

SAY: Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] and I'm a constituent from [YOUR CITY]. I'm calling to demand [YOUR REP’s NAME] expand the list of high-risk conditions eligible for COVID-19 vaccines in [STATE NAME]. The CDC themselves have stated that their list is not exhaustive, and only includes conditions for which there have been enough documented COVID cases to draw data from. This means that people with rare conditions are not included. But a lack of data does not mean a lack of risk - many of [us/them] are still at a higher risk for catching COVID or developing severe complications from it. People with preexisting conditions have already lost so much in this pandemic, from access to healthcare to their lives. You have the power to prevent any more loss by prioritizing disabled lives and expanding the vaccine eligibility to more people with preexisting conditions. Thank you for your time and have a good day."STATE SENATORS/STATE REPRESENTATIVES ( find yours here ):
